Sony Cybershot 12.1MP with IS

Posted by Shamn on 10/10/2009

Retail Price: $279.00  Sony

I had a Canon Power shot before and it just stopped working on me after almost two years of use. Last moth, I decided to go look for another point and shoot camera and decided to buy touch screen Sony cyber shot. However, there are always pros and cons when you buy like camera, because obviously nothing is perfect. Ultimately I have more pros than cons!  So here we go…

 Pros:

It has 12.1 mega pixel resolutions with aperture range of f/3.5 to f/10.

Comes with a generous 3” LCD screen, great for reviewing photos after taking a shot or slideshow.

Touch screen is really good, and works like charm.

Capture very good HD video.

It’s very compact and it takes very crisp images especially when not using zoom.

Easy to carry around, only weigh 5 oz.

Love the smile feature, comes with 5 levels, so I can go have fun with my photos!

Image stabilization works great.

Love the fact that you can slideshow all your pictures taken with special effects and you can actually download your music from your computer to your camera and used that as your slideshow music.

You can choose Image size from 2M to 12M (The higher you choose, the lower images capacity on your camera, of course).

In Shooting Display settings, easy options of normal, Simple and Image only.

You also can view images by date, favorites, event and just folder view.

 Cons:

Battery life is so much poor when it comes to Video capture, only lasts about 8 to 10 minutes.

If you want to run slideshow especially with music on, it really eats up a lot of battery life. Hope Sony could have done better!

Only thing I can say, when you buy a digital camera especially touch screen, I can only suggest to buy screen protector to avoid your LCD screen from scratch and grease. With all that said, I am very happy with this camera. I am very impressed and worth every penny!

Here’s the few sample taken from Sony cyber shot with the help of IS.

Canon EOS Rebel XSi

Posted by Shamn on 10/05/2009

Suggested Retail Price: $749.99
For Specifications, please visit Canon’s website

canon xsiI’ve have been doing tons of research before buying my first dSLR. After reading all the reviews from different websites about dSLR camera, I decided to purchase the Canon Xsi with kit 18-55mm IS, it was a fantastic choice and the most suitable for me although I never intend to shoot like a full pro camera. The kit lens (EF-S 18-55 F/3.5-5.6 IS) is very good for the price. Lens is very light and compact, so it is very easy to carry around. The zoom is pretty basic, but the Image Stabilizer feature is great so overall, it is a very good lens and definitely worth the price if you are just starting out.
I bought the dSLR since I am fed up with my point and shoot, although I had a new one with different brand, it’s because I want something that I can put in my purse in case unexpected happen. It’s been a year now and I still love it a lot. Very easy to use, LCD screen is so clear and it has a very good image quality, and it’s great for reviewing several shots! Also, the lenses that came with it were good but I have to upgrade it after several times of using it. The XSi has an accurate focus even in dim lighting and CMOS sensor really captured exceptional clarity! If you are in dark area, XSi’s auto optimization is another tool that you can use in lighting conditions.
Other feature that I like also is Canon designed Self cleaning sensor unit. The filter at the front of the sensor shakes off dust automatically with ultrasonic vibrations, removing dust from the sensor assembly. XSI has a new coating on the front surface of the low-pass filter, just to increase its resistance to dust sticking to the sensor.
For under $800, this is the best dslr that you can find.
Pros:
– An easy to use, quick camera.
– 12 mega pixels.
– Great pictures, sharp, good tones.
– Small and light weight for a DSLR.
– Live view mode3.5 shots per second
– Sharp kit lens for the price.
– Long lasting battery
– Comes with 18-55mm IS lens (it’s a gem for the beginner but no doubt that better lenses will produce better pictures but you will be spending some serious $$$)
Cons:
– ISO limited to 1600.
– Live view cannot be used in Auto mode
– Exposure compensation range limited
– Does not have video
– Built in flash is not that great but you can always buy Canon SpeedLite for the camera
Other thing too, you have to get a nice memory card for this. I recommend the 8 GB Sandisk Extreme III and buy some decent filters, it provides protection to your lens from being scratched and you can see the difference of image quality. It’s an absolute must to have a back-up battery.
It lasts forever but you’ll need another one eventually.
If you are in the market of getting a new DSLR, get the XSi. Whether you are an amature, pro or just something that looking to take some great photos, this camera will fit your needs. Overall, it’s a good investment and absolutely the best bang for your $$$!!!
